The First of Many.... An Introduction

I have started this blog as a way of sharing with others the love, triumphs, failures, and day to day joys that my boyfriend (Chad) and I receive every day from sharing our lives with our loyal companions.  Our Great Danes.

I guess a little background information is in order here....

My name is Ashley, and I live in a pretty little house on a hill with my boyfriend Chad, our 2 (soon to be 3) Great Danes, and our Boston Terrier.

Chad and I have been together since pretty much the dawn of time, not married, no biological children, but we love our fur-kids as much as anyone could love a human child, and we love the life we have built together.  It is not the most conventional of lives, but we are not the most conventional of people.

I work a traditional 9-5 Monday-Friday, while Chad works in the Service Industry and his days/hours vary week to week... which loosely translates to we do not always get the time to spend together that we want, but  there is typically always someone home with the "kids".

Now for the kids......

Guinness is the Boston Terrier.  She is our oldest, and smallest.  She was adopted from a local animal shelter right before Chad and I moved in together.

Next came Trinity.  She was our first Great Dane.  We brought her home as this tiny little Merle blob... and she has grown into this muscular angular dog that sometimes I cannot even remember as the tiny puppy she once was!

Now to Thor.  Our "Rescue", so to speak.... after the passing of Killian, Chad's beloved Boxer mix, he was left without a "Daddy's Dog".  Trinity was, and still is, super bonded with me, so he was left without a dog to call his own.  We decided that our next dog would be another Dane, since we loved our Trinity so much.  We began looking around, and happened to stumble across someone trying to rehome their 9 month old Dane.  We called, and decided to drive the 2.5 hours "just to look".  We did not know if he would be a good fit with us, or what kind of shape this guy was in.  When we finally got to his owners house, we knew he was coming with us, good fit or not.  He was underweight, his coat was in terrible shape, and his ribcage was severely deformed from spending 20+ hours a day in a crate so small we would not have put our late boxer mix in it.  He had issues, but we could not possibly leave him.  We loaded him up and "graciously" took the "food" and "crate" his previous owners gave us, and vowed that the minute he got home, he was getting a decent meal and a much needed bath.  You would not even know he was the same skinny, scared, mildly aggressive, filthy wreck that we brought home that day.

In a few weeks we will be adding a very special little boy to our family... and his addition is what has inspired me to create a blog, where I can chronicle the ups and downs of his life with us.  Triton will be joining us late September 2010.  He will be a challenge, but I cannot wait to meet him and watch him grow.  Triton is deaf.  I have never raised or trained a deaf dog before, and this will all be new to Chad and I.  We will add pictures of him as soon as we can!!

Thank You,
Ashley, Chad, and the Fur-Kids
